The iOS 8.4.1 download is only a small one and it is the final version of iOS 8. Small it may be, it does pack a rather large punch, given that there are more than 20 security updates in it, not to mention fixes for minor bugs and performance enhancements. One particular security update worth mentioning targets an exploit found in the Wi-Fi chipset on the iPhone; this exploit could have been used to allow a third-party to take control of the iPhone remotely if the Wi-Fi was actively looking for a signal. Updating to iOS 8 is the only way to fix this so read on for details on how to do that.

How to Download iOS 8.4.1:

We have three update methods for you to choose from but, before you do, if you opt for the second or third methods, iTunes must be up to date on your computer:

  1. Open iTunes and click Help
  2. Click Check for Updates and wait
  3. If an update is available, iTunes will guide you through updating.

Once you have done that, back your data up – the updates usually go without a hitch but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Method 1: OTA

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch
  2. Click on General and then on Software Update
  3. Wait for the update to be found and then click Download on the popup message
  4. Click on Install and then leave your device to update – it will reboot when it’s done
